Looking for a secure job with opportunities for career growth and further education?

Then vocational training (Ausbildung) is the perfect choice for you!

However, the transition from school to work—and the vast number of possible vocational paths—can be overwhelming. This is especially true for young people with a migration background. More than a quarter of them lack a professional qualification, compared to just 9% of the general population.

Together, we can fix that.

Our project “Deine Zukunft: Ausbildung in der Region Leipzig” tackles this exact issue. We provide advice and training to Bezugspersonen of young migrants on the topic of vocational training in Germany. Equipped with key insights, you can guide your mentees as a trusted advisor—all through our free consultations and training sessions!

WHO WE ARE

The project “Deine Zukunft: Ausbildung in der Region Leipzig” is a joint initiative of ZAW Zentrum für Aus- und Weiterbildung Leipzig GmbH and Handwerkskammer zu Leipzig. It was launched in July 2023 and is funded as part of the program “Rat geben – Ja zur Ausbildung!” by the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the European Union through the European Social Fund Plus (ESF Plus).

WHAT WE DO

The project aims to help remove barriers faced by young immigrants or young descendants of immigrants in accessing vocational training. To achieve this, important reference persons from their immediate living environment are to be strengthened and trained in their role as advisors. Reference persons are individuals who regularly interact directly with the young people, e.g., parents, relatives, social workers, volunteers, as well as trainers and teachers from clubs. As advisors, they should motivate and support these young people, and to facilitate their transition from school to employment.

WHERE WE OPERATE

Our training sessions, counseling services, and information events are offered for the Leipzig region. This includes the city of Leipzig as well as the districts of Leipzig and Nordsachsen. We have project offices both at ZAW Leipzig (Bogislawstraße 20, 04315 Leipzig) and at the Leipzig Chamber of Crafts (Dresdner Str. 11/13, 04103 Leipzig).

HOW WE ADVISE

We offer low-threshold counseling in German and, if desired, native-language counseling in the target languages Arabic, English, Russian, Portuguese and Spanish. Every Tuesday, open consultation hours take place from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at both the ZAW GmbH and HWK zu Leipzig. Group appointments or individual counseling sessions specifying the desired target language can be arranged via our website, by phone, or by email.
